About Me
Hello, my name is Loriza Zaid and I am the Head of Department for Sciences at Bader Intermediate. I have been teaching for nearly 20 years at various Intermediate schools in Auckland. As a leader in the school, I want to provide relevant information, knowledge, skills and attitude through the Sciences to prepare our young learners to grow up as active, responsible and reflective members of our society.

Science

Science is a way of investigating, understanding, and explaining our natural, physical world and the wider universe. It involves generating and testing ideas, gathering evidence, including making observations, carrying out investigations, modelling, communicating and debating with others. Students are taught key scientific knowledge through key Strands and Achievement Objectives which will give them a platform to show that their thinking is logical, has insight and is built on a solid foundation of evidence.

Social Sciences

The key focus of this curriculum area is learning how societies work and how people can participate as critical, active, informed and responsible citizens. There are four key Strands that students will work through being:

  • Identity, Culture and Organization
  • Place and Environment
  • Continuity and Change
  • The Economic World

Students are taught the knowledge and skills to enable them to develop a deeper understanding of local, national and global issues that impact themselves, their culture and communities.
